Privacy Notice for Montana First Credit Union
Montana First Credit Union is owned by its members and run by a board of directors you elect. You can be confident that your financial privacy is a top priority of this credit union. We are required by law to give you this privacy notice to explain how we collect, use and safeguard your personal financial information. The Collection and Use of Information
We need to collect information about you to conduct our business relationship. We collect only the information necessary to deliver quality products and services to our members. We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products and services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations and leading industry practices to safeguard your nonpublic personal information.
We collect nonpublic personal information about you from various sources, including:
- Information we received from you on applications or other forms
- Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others
- Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency
- Information obtained when verifying the information you provide on an application or other forms, such as from your current or past employers or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions.
Sharing of Information Within Our Credit Union
Under certain circumstances, consumer information may be revealed to other groups within our organization to market additional products and to ensure we are considering your entire relationship with us when making decisions about your products (e.g., increasing a line of credit). We might also share information with these groups in order to provide services necessary to maintain your accounts (such as data processing). The types of information include information about your identity, information about your transaction history with our credit union, information about your current financial condition (such as details about your income and/or assets), and information obtained from a credit report or other sources outside of our credit union.
We may disclose the following kinds of nonpublic personal information about you:
- Information we receive from you on applications or other forms, such as your name, address, social security numbers, assets, and income
- Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others, such as your account balance, payment history, participation in transactions, and credit card usage
- Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency, such as your creditworthiness and credit history
- Information obtained when verifying the information you provide on an application or other forms, such as from your current or past employers or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions
We may disclose all of the information we collect as described above. We also may disclose the information described above to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with which we have joint marketing agreements.
Sharing of Information to Others
From time to time, we will provide information to reputable companies for the purposes of informing you about financial products and/or services offered by those companies. Unless you specifically respond to a solicitation by such a company, however, retention of this information is not allowed.
We may disclose nonpublic personal information about you to the following types of parties:
- Financial service providers, such as our affiliate mortgage banking subsidiary and/or nonaffiliated insurance agents
- Nonfinancial nonaffiliated companies such as retailers and publishers
- Others, such as nonaffiliated nonprofit organizations
We will not share your account number or access codes with outside companies for purposes of marketing. We may also disclose nonpublic personal information about you to nonaffiliated third parties as permitted by law. These disclosures typically include information to process transactions on your behalf, conduct the operations of our credit union, follow your instructions as you authorize, or protect the security of our financial records. If you terminate your membership, we will continue to adhere to the privacy policies and practices as described in this notice.
Confidentiality of Consumer Information
When we share information with third parties, we hold all such parties to the same or higher standards as we do ourselves with respect to privacy of your information. To protect our members' privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of information we provide.
Protecting Children's Information
The online financial services through the credit union's website are not designed for or directed toward children under age 13. We do not knowingly solicit or collect data from children, and we do not knowingly market to children online without express parental consent or notification. If we receive online information from any child, we will only use the information to respond directly to a child's request. We recognize that protecting children's identities and online privacy is important and that responsibility rests with us and with parents. If you believe your child has provided personally identifiable information to us, please contact us so we can allow you the opportunity to review and delete such information.
