Brief History

Montana1st Credit Union was chartered in 1931 to provide a cooperative alternative to traditional financial institutions in Western Montana. Originally chartered to serve the needs of federal employees living or working in Region One of the United States Forest Service, the credit union has since expanded our membership to include citizens of Missoula and the surrounding trade areas.

  • Activities, groups or events not in a Montana 1st branch community

Montana 1st Mabel Allen Memorial Scholarships…

At Montana 1st we recognize that the dream of a college education is something not all Montana families can provide their children.  It was with that in mind that we began offering two scholarships to Montana students attending The University of Montana-Missoula.  These scholarships are given annually by the staff at UM’s School of Business Administration.

The Mabel Allen scholarships are named to honor a credit union volunteer and friend.  Mabel started Montana 1st in her desk drawer in 1931.  Because of Mabel’s dedication to our organization, Montana 1st has grown to be a vital part of the financial services industry in Western Montana.
